DALLAS — The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Department of Energy (DOE) have awarded their highest honor, the ENERGY STAR Award for Sustained Excellence to Energy Education, Inc. for the company’s continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency. Energy Education’s accomplishments will be recognized during an awards ceremony in Washington D.C. on April 12.

“For a quarter of a century it has been Energy Education’s mission to help clients reach the highest level of energy efficiency,” said Energy Education Chairman and Founder Dr. William S. A number of organizations implementing Energy Education’s program are already involved with ENERGY STAR as Partners or Leaders, or have earned the ENERGY STAR Label for one or more of their facilities.

ENERGY STAR LABEL: As of March 9, 2011, of 5,427 ENERGY STAR K-12 recognitions earned, 2,715 — a full 50% — are in school districts that implemented our Energy Education program before the building earned the ENERGY STAR Label. Of the 1,855 earning the Label in 2010 alone, 935 — or 50% — are in school districts that implemented our program before earning the Label. In 2009, of the 1,855 schools earning the Label, 755 — or 53% — are in school districts that implemented our program before earning the Label. Energy Education actively encourages its clients to participate in the ENERGY STAR program.

To earn an ENERGY STAR recognition, the facility must be certified by a licensed engineer as being among the lowest 25 percent of buildings nationwide in energy use per square foot, and must maintain the highest standards for the quality of its internal environment.

ENERGY STAR LEADER: Of 244 ENERGY STAR Leader awards in the K-12 sector, 113 of them — or 46% — are in school districts that had our Energy Education program before the organization earned ENERGY STAR Leader status. There are only sixteen 30-, 40- or 50-percent Leader school districts in the nation. Eleven are Energy Education clients. The only two 50-percent Leaders in the nation are Energy Education clients.

To qualify as an ENERGY STAR Leader, the organization must have two or more buildings eligible to receive an ENERGY STAR rating, which must comprise at least 50% of the owned floor area, and achieve a portfolio-wide average reduction in normalized source energy use of 10% or more. Leader Top Performers have a portfolio-wide efficiency in the top 25% of the nation’s K-12 buildings. Fifty-five of the 96 — or 57% — Top Performer school districts nationwide are Energy Education Inc. clients. See a complete list here.

Chairman and Founder Dr. William S. Spears says Energy Education’s alliance with ENERGY STAR gives the company the opportunity to provide expanded services to clients across the nation.

“ENERGY STAR is recognized throughout the United States as a government-backed symbol signifying valuable, unbiased information to businesses and consumers. Energy Education’s Transformational Energy Management® process meshes well with the ENERGY STAR philosophy — reflecting the empowerment of individuals to make a difference by making environmental choices that produce financial savings and protect the environment without compromising quality or comfort.” Dr. Spears continues, “Our partnership with ENERGY STAR allows Energy Education to ensure clients realize well-deserved recognition for their stellar energy conservation achievements.”
