PLANO — Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, TX, the first church to implement Energy Education, Inc.’s innovative conservation program, was named “Best Green Church” at the WFX House of Worship (HOW) Conference.
The second annual event for church facilities and technology teams took place November 9 in Dallas and included over 3,000 church leaders, staff, volunteers and industry professionals from 42 states and around the world. The event was presented by Worship Facilities magazine and Church Production Magazine.
The “Best Green Church” category asked contestants to discuss measures taken to ensure church sustainability and money saved on utility costs. Entrants demonstrated steps taken and results seen from moving toward a green church.
EEI congratulates Prestonwood Baptist Church on the stellar beginning to its conservation program. In the first four months of the program, Prestonwood saved 26 percent of its energy costs for the period, or $242,238. The green equivalent of these savings is equal to one of the following:
- 1,579 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions prevented
- 349 passenger cars not driven for a year
- 179,768 gallons of gasoline not used
- 724 acres of trees planted
EEI’s innovative energy conservation program is a win-win alliance that trains personnel to create substantial energy savings, and is funded solely by the savings the program generates. Clients can preserve additional saved energy dollars for other resources. Energy Education, Inc. has worked with more than 795 educational organizations across the nation, positively impacting the educational environment of ten million children and helping clients save more than $1.2 billion in 20 years.
